The Chakra System
The word “chakra”, literally meaning “wheel” or “circle”, refers to energy centres that exist both within and out with the physical body. These centres correspond with nerve plexuses in the body. Most texts traditionally discuss the seven major chakras as illustrated in this image. In reality we have thousands of chakras all over our body. The seven centres have governing metaphysical as well as physical functions. The role of the chakras is to accept, transform and emit energy to different parts of the body. This energy is then circulated around the body effectively animating and nourishing it much as our cardiovascular system nourishes us via our blood. This chakra system makes up part of our wider bio-field commonly referred to as our aura. Homeostasis, the body’s natural ability to self regulate, dictates our physiology and is vital to our overall health. Our bio-field is also geared to self regulate. However when blockages appear in our bio-field that we are unable to remove by ourselves, systems of energy medicine, such as Bio-energy Therapy and Reiki, work with the chakra system to help restore energetic self regulation. A free flowing, self regulating energy field helps the mind, body and spirit to self regulate and heal. There are many ways to help clear and strengthen your chakra system and there are thousands of books, CDs and practitioners to help you. |

The Chakras Themselves
The aim of what appears below is to give you intellectual understanding on the significance of your chakra system to your health and your life. We in the West are only beginning to understand our energy system and what it really means for us. The reality is that our bio-field (including the chakra system) continually oscillates, gathers and sends energetic information throughout our system and the world at large. The chakras, although they appear to pertain to specific aspects of physicality and meta physicality, cannot be isolated from the effect they have on the energetic system as a whole.
